Healing Trauma through Yoga

at Whitstable Yoga & Wellbeing Centre

This two-hour workshop is an introduction to trauma-informed yoga (TIY).

It will begin with a discussion of what trauma is (and isn’t!), delve into the theory behind why yoga and somatics are such useful tools for healing from trauma and chronic stress (clue: it’s because of their alchemical power to influence our nervous systems), and explore the foundational pillars of a trauma-informed approach to yoga.

You will then be invited to move through a nourishing and nurturing TIY session comprising grounding and self-locating practices, breath work, somatics, yoga flow and guided relaxation. Student choice will be promoted throughout the TIY practice to allow each student to find a practice that truly serves their needs and present moment state.

No prior knowledge of trauma or the nervous system is required - just a willingness to be kind and curious and to meet yourself where you are.

Similarly, no prior yoga experience is required.

All props will be provided by the studio but you may want to bring a pen and notebook to take notes (there will also be handouts) and a drink.
